Broken Things to Mend by Karey White
Celia is running away from everything and everyone she knows. With no family and hardly anyone to call a friend, she looks at an atlas and starts flipping the pages. She finally decides on Sisters, Oregon and boards a bus in hopes of a fresh start on her own.
A strange woman happens to meet her, anticipates her needs even before she can ask. She meets friends who want to take care of her, but will she let them? Will her past get in the way of a new future?
I have loved all of Karey White’s books (See my reviews of The Husband Maker, The Wife Maker, The Match Maker, For What Its Worth) and I chose this to read based on that criteria alone. I love the way the story is told and easily loved the characters. I did NOT love the ending.
** Spoiler ALERT** DO not read if you don’t want to discuss the ending **
I hate the ending of the relationship with Celia and Silas. I love that they are in love, and overcome all of these obstacles to be together. I just think they jumped from being in love to a marriage and family REALLY quick. Too quick. I can’t decide if I am being judgmental based on what decision I would have made, or if I didn’t like it for the characters. Either way, I feel like if she could pick up and leave her entire life, she could have started fresh with Silas and placed the baby for adoption like she planned to the entire time. I can see how hard of a decision would be, and I don’t want to brush that off, I just think the decision seemed out of character for Celia. Bleh. I am not sure. If you read the book I would love to know your thoughts!
** This book is part of the Power Of The Matchmaker Series – there is a minor character that makes an appearance in each book, but they can all be read alone and the stories don’t overlap in any way **
