Mothers Teach Us About Beauty
My mom and Grandma
Parents have such a strong influence on a child’s self esteem and perception of beauty. More specifically, mothers have a huge impact on their children. For good or bad, I remember the times that my parents or grandparents have commented on my appearance.
One time my grandma was babysitting me and my brothers, and was in charge of getting me to ballet classes. She asked me if I was going to brush my hair. Since my hair is curly, I do not brush it or else it will get really frizzy. After explaining this to her she told me she was embarrassed to be seen with me. It stung. Bad.
I am so happy to share anything that helps promote positive self-esteem. We should all show our children that real beauty is defined in so many ways, and we should embrace the differences we all have.
