One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday afternoon is drive around and look at houses. It’s something I grew up doing with my family. Talking and house stalking. My husband doesn’t really understand it, but he goes along with it.
In Calgary, the newer communities are all master planned and have architectural controls. Is means that most homes look a lot alike. Once the community is finished there is a set amount of time that changes are restricted on the outside of your home. My parents community is just hitting the years that the controls have ended and minor renovations and updates are needed. While driving by, we noticed that a neighbor just replaced their garage door with a really contemporary style with glass inserts. I really liked it, other people who shall remain nameless, did not. I think for the right home it would be awesome.
Here are some exteriors I drove past. I love the variety that this city offers.
I know when I was expecting my twins, we worked each night to get our basement remodeling finished so we would have a warm place to let m oldest hang out. We were up all hours of the night. We planned on spacing it out a bit longer, so that we could pay cash for it. We ended up taking out a small line of credit in order to get the bigger jobs done before the babies arrival. Is that unusual or more common than you think? I am curious. For more information on financing renovations, visit NPBS.
