Confessions On Hygiene
I have a confession. This is where I assume that what is said here stays here and no judgement. Ok? I am not the cleanliest (most clean?) girl. I shower probably twice a week. I have mastered the art of letting a good hair flat ironing lasting me 3-4 days. I own a shower cap for just those days when I have straightened but don’t want to repeat that 2 hour process that is straightening my hair. When the hair is done I can jump from bed throw clothes on and look presentable on days 2 and 3.
The other day my mom came over and proceeded to clean most off my entire house. She is amazing like that. No, you can’t have her. She’s all mine. However, she asked to take a quick shower before we ran to a dinner event that evening. She got in my shower and asked where the body wash was. I pointed her to my husbands manly wash and the look she gave me expressed how much she wasn’t digging it. I then told her I don’t really use body wash.
Why? I don’t know why, it just feels like its one more step in the daily routine that isn’t necessary. I bathe in soapy bubbly water. I shampoo and it all washes down. It takes to much time I would rather spend reading or watching tv.
My mom then scolded me in a tone I would only take from my mom, That is Not Good Enough. Now, my mom can be quite bossy sometimes. I like bossy people apparently, because one of my Best friends always claims she is bossy. The bossiness that I get used to becomes apparent in our house with the phrase “Debbie says.”
Why do you clean with such weird products? Debbie says. Why do you do laundry that way? Debbie says. Good or bad, the list has added up over the years. Why do you need to go out and discover the best body wash the world has to offer? Debbie says.
So the morning after the body wash incident, I got a package. This particular package I had forgotten entirely about. 9 bottles of soft scrub, one in each scent, at my door step. I laughed at the irony in the timing. I took a picture and said. I needed body wash and The universe delivered.
We both tried it out. It smells great, and cleans great. Hey I might even remember to use it, if your lucky. Its even good enough for my mom, and thats saying something.
