70’s Apartment Remodel

This is a project I worked on for my parents.  It is a rental apartment that was just vacated by long term tenants and was ready for some touch ups and updating. Every room was repainted including the bedrooms, which also got new carpet and new window treatments are on order.

Bedroom 2

In the bathroom we replaced the vanity, replaced the vinyl floors with tile, and replaced the tub surround with a new tub and a tile surround. There are also new lights and faucets.

In the kitchen we kept the appliances, painted the wood on the cabinets, painted the walls, and put in a new backsplash, replaced the countertops and put in new faucets.

Apartment Remodel

All of the rooms were repainted and laminate flooring was put in throughout main rooms. A few simple updates make this place look like a million bucks!

Would you want to rent this place?

Amazing transformation! The kitchen looks so good, and using the old cupboard doors is a great way to keep things somewhat green. Great job. And Calgary eh? I went to Mount Royal seven years ago, love that city.

Well done, such a transformation. We have all had the experience of living in places just like that but you really have shown your creative flair in the conversion.

Oh my…one of the kitchens in my home has these kitchen cabinets and I can’t stand the outdated look of them. Please get back to me on this one. Did you just paint the wood to match the formica or did you paint the formica too? What type of paint works best to adhere to it? Please write to me and explain more details on the formica paint job. Pleasse! I’m desperate for an updated look. Your kitchen looks lovely!

I painted the wood trim to match the cabinets. I used a bullseye 123 primer from home depot (which is the best for no sanding) and then used benjamin moore’s Aura paint. I hope this helps!

I blog hopped over to your blog from “Better After”. Love what you did. So much better. I have a question for you, how did you go about painting the kitchen cabinets? My sister has the same ones in her house and we want to refinish them I have done real wood cabinets before but these have a different finish then wood. Did you just prime and paint?
