I was pleasantly surprised by Ashes, Ashes by Julie Coulter Bellon. First off, I loved the writing style. It flowed nicely and I found it very easy to read. Her style of writing makes me want to read her other books.
This was the first book I read by Julie Coulter Bellon. Yes I realize that its book two in the Hostage Negotiation Team series. And Yes my OCD self was pained greatly to not have read book one. However, I never once felt like I was missing out by not having read the first book. (I still really want to read it, but Its not needed to read it before reading Ashes, Ashes).
I really loved the suspense aspect of this book. It grabbed you right from the start and I never got bored. There were enough twists and turns to keep me interested but no major shocker to leave me thinking “wow that came out of no where”
I also really appreciated the relative ‘clean’-ness of the book. I read a lot of crime books and watch a lot of crime shows. They are always filled to over flowing with swearing and gore. This book was not. I cant say for a fact that there was never a swear… but if there was it was a rarity.
There was one thing that I didn’t enjoy about Ashes, Ashes. The romance side to the story. As far as romance love stories go its fairly well done… but I’m just not a love story kind of a person. I love the suspense side but really could have done with out the romance side.
All and all I really enjoyed Ashes, Ashes. More importantly I feel like I’ve found a hidden gem in Julie Coulter Bellon and have added her other books to my to read list!
