What The West Has To Offer
West Coast Perspective
Don’t tell the bloggers in Ontario, but there are plenty of great bloggers out west in Canada. In Calgary we wonder why nobody has discovered what a big deal we are. A few weeks ago I was able to attend BlogWest in Edmonton (close enough right?) We have to jump at the opportunities on the West Coast when we can.
Canadian Blog Conferences
I attended my first blogging conference back in October and it was awesome. Facebook and twitter have surprisingly made me some great
online friends. But meeting people who speak your language is invaluable. I found speaking in person with like minded people to be very inspiring and motivating.
The numbers were smaller in BlogWest this year, but the environment it created was wonderful. There were no blogger sororities. Not only were all of the speakers amazing, but the networking and discussions were the best part. That is why we go to a blog conference, right? Online conversations are great, but its way easier to be friends with people you have met in real life. There is a great blogging community out there but when I attend a conference it makes other bloggers seem like real people. It gives a face and personality to an online name.
I got to meet the amazing Schmutzie and rejoice over tacos about our joint love of watching netflix in the bathtub. Her story is powerful and I found myself re-reading my notes from her closing keynote to myself and some friends. Her TedTalk about self doubt will give you a taste. I met up with Julie, who introduced me to the amazing Christene of Ms. Pixel (who is working on my new blog design WAHOO!). I got ditched by Kyla, and found Tiffany, who I joke is Kyla’s replacement. Its ok, I got to eat chocolate covered strawberries for the both of us, and the bed was mine alone for the first time in years,
