The Book Thief
2013
Genre: Drama, War

There is power in a story.  Its ability to take you to a new world, forget your problems, remember someone elses.  Leisel learns to read and love stories while living in Germany during World War II.  Her adopted parents take in a Jewish refugee that encourages Liesel to remember the stories.
This movie is an adaptation of the book, and I must say its one of the few I love the movie as much, if not more, than the book itself.  Its such a powerful story, and one that everyone needs to know.  I loved how the characters were so real.  In most World War II the people all seem so cruel and inhuman (which I am sure many of them were) but when we read stories of people doing kind and generous things, so its nice to be reminded of the mercy that existed in such horrible times.

I would love to see this movie! I wanted to in the theatre, but my 23 month old doesn’t really allow me to go too often. 😉

I just completed the book and cannot remember the last time I was so impacted by words. The writing and the story completely shock me to my core and I felt as if I was walking around in a daze for a time.
I would love the opportunity to see this on DVD and to see how it compares to the book!

Sounds like a great movie. I always think the book is better then the movie, but for you to say this movie is as good if not better then the movie, makes me want to watch it.

Brooke - Brooklyn Berry Designs

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
