Delivery Man

Delivery man is a funny movie about a serious dilemma. A man anonymously donated sperm as a young adult and discovers 18ish years later that he is the biological parent of 533 kids who want to know who he is.  Overall the movie is sweet and heart warming. Vince Vaughn usually stresses me out in his shows because he is so serious. This is the best movie I have seen him act in.

It isn’t until after the show ends that I start thinking about the details. These kids have parents. Parents who paid a lot of money and underwent numerous intrusive medical procedures to give birth to and raise these kids. Obviously with that many individuals there is a bound to be a wide range of parents and situations and yet There is no mention of these parents in the movie. We are given the impression that these kids need a mentor, a parent, someone to give them direction. I could understand wanting a sense of identity with a biological parent. Do I look like them?  I assume most adopted children would wonder those things.
However, as a mother I can tell you. Genetics and biology has nothing to do with making you a parent. It’s the sick kids all through the night. It’s the potty training, the teething, the sleep schedules, and every teaching moment that arises that gives you the honor of wearing the mom or dad badge

I am happy that David (the mega dad) was curious about his children. I just can’t understand why these kids would want a relationship with this man. Overall, I am impressed with the movies ability to take a complicated and frustrating situation and make a comical and real life story about it. Obviously it is a concern.

Go see the show!  My own little rant is just that.  A Rant.  Delivery Man is definitely sweet.
