Who knew sleep could be so complicated?

Sweet Sleep

Remember when I told you I am a bit pampered in needing 9+ hours of sleep a night? I have been on a mission to get a better nights sleep, in the hopes of making me a happier mom.

When I travel for work and often share a hotel room with a co-worker.  One trip she told me that I had weird sleep issues because I liked to pile the extra pillows onto my feet.  I then realized I never really got good sleep when I was at a hotel, regardless of the quality of the bedding, the pillows and everything along with it.  I called it heavy on my feet.  I didn’t think it was anything weird or unusual it was just comfortable.

The best night’s sleep I can ever remember was in my college apartment.  I laid on my bed with my textbooks open to study and fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night and just climbed under the covers, leaving my books as they were. When I woke up I had shoved my feet underneath the blankets where the heavy textbooks were and I realized that was what made me so comfortable. This is where I began to describe my quirk using the expression “heavy on my feet”.

I had heard of weighted blankets but I thought of them as a solution for people with sensory issues. I didn’t have that!  It wasn’t until I woke up in the middle of the night because I had kicked my pillows off my feet that I realized something. If it meant I got a good nights sleep, I didn’t care what you called it.  I texted my friend Leslie, owner and co-founder of Hippo Hug, that morning and decided to order a blanket.

I am a busy mom that needs a good nights sleep, Which is why my hippo hug weighted blanket has become my little secret to a good nights sleep.  I am so thrilled with my blanket.  Its cute as can be, and my husband tries to stick his feet under it.  I may have him convinced about the heavy on his feet!  Apparently its more common than I thought because after consulting on facebook, people were jumping all over to tell me about how much they loved them, and all the great things they are useful for.

Would you like to win a weighted blanket?

Ive been trying to learn more about why this is but havent had any luck so far. Thanks for your story

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
