How Much Do You Love Me

OK, the title of this book did nothing for me, but once I read the book description I knew it was something I wanted to read.  A historical fiction based in America following Pearl Harbor, the characters are fictional but the story is real.

Keiko and James have a secret relationship.  His family owns the land that her parents rent to farm.  Pearl Harbor is attacked, and they know that James will enlist in the army, and talks are spreading that the Japanese and their American children will be taken to camps.  They decide that they must be married before either of them leaves.  They are lucky because Washington is one of the few states that recognizes a marriage as legal.

60 years later their daughter, who was born in the camps,  uncovers pictures of a time that nobody in her family talks about.

It amazes me how far we have come in terms of immigration.  Being a dual citizen of both US and Canada, I am very lucky. I can’t believe that you weren’t allowed to marry someone of a different race.  That a child born in a country used to not be deemed a citizen automatically.

How Much Do You Love Me is a touching book, with a twist ending that will have you re-reading it and enjoying it all over again.  Find it on Goodreads, Amazon, and local book stores.

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
