How to get curls with a flat iron

A Flat Iron Can Create Curls.

When I tell people that I curl my hair with my flat iron, nobody believes me. While there are plenty of awesome hair tutorials out there, I have been asked and so will provide you with one.  I can’t photograph my own hair while curling it, so I am using my niece to demonstrate.

Divide your hair into sections.  Its more about how much hair is in each section that the width.  My hair is really thick so I need to do smaller sections.
Twist the flat iron under and pull it through your hair.  For looser curls, move the iron faster and hold the iron in place, moving slower for tighter curls.  If you leave the hair more spread out, it will create more barrel type curls.  If you push the hair together into a tighter section it will create more ringlety curls.
After each section is complete you can run your fingers through it to break up the curls.  For more beachy waves you can use a brush or curl just the middle section of the hair.
Easy Peasy!   If I can do it, trust me you can too!

Here are some before and after pictures on my moms hair.  I love it!

That is indeed amazing! But I still don’t think I could do it. Could you come to my house to give a personal tutorial? Is that seriously your mom’s hair? Wow!

Brooke - Brooklyn Berry Designs

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
