There is something about having a brand new baby in the house that makes your older children suddenly seem like giants.  We have always referred to our twins as “the babies” and it has become apparent that they are nowhere near being babies any more.  With the newborn in the house we will need to change that nickname.

I love seeing the changes in a 3.5 year old boy and what they are able to do. It has started being more obvious as they play with toys such as Lego.  They have moved on from stacking blocks into tall towers and are looking for more interactive parts.

The other day I brought out some Lego Duplo for the boys to play with.  I was watching them play and was amazed at how much they have grown.  For two boys that were so slow to talk, I was overcome with shock and awe to see them not only figuring out this train set, but able to describe to me how parts worked. They were able to set the numbers up and tell me what they were, without me asking. They lifted the top of the train and said “open and shut” while adjusting the top.

You can see them talking about it here:

To see their minds connecting everything and able to say what they were doing was a major accomplishment for them and a proud mom moment for me.  A year ago I never would have imagined them meeting these developmental milestones.

LEGO really does allow you to see new milestones and developmental changes with your kids. My personal favourite is when they go from knocking down towers to actually building them!

Brooke - Brooklyn Berry Designs

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
