Artisan Tile

azulej-19

this is … azulej

Ignore the boring solid colored porcelain tiles of the past.

More is more these days.

 azulej-1

This new tile design, the azulej by Patricia Urquiola, includes many different designs meant to be used together.  The colors are all neutral – grey, cream, and white.  This allows the patterns and designs to take the stage.  Inspired by ancient handcrafted majolica, this new tile collection as actually made of hydraulic cement.

What the heck is hydraulic cement tiles?  Well, to spare you the nitty gritty, the cement component doesn’t need to be fired, rather it is formed with a hydraulic press and air dried.  Using much less energy, its considered a “green” product and is also extremely durable, easy to clean, and naturally insulating.  Cool!

The Azulej collection is available from Mutina and can be ordered as a combination of patterns or a single pattern.

Brooke - Brooklyn Berry Designs

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
