White Kitchen Design

The Design Dilemma:

This beautiful new kitchen is very well done.  The cabinets are great quality, and a classic profile.  There just seems to be something missing.  The touch that makes it feel like a comforting home, a nice welcoming kitchen, and not just a model home’s kitchen.

Design Questions:

Beige Latte Cabinets
I would love to see the island painted a contrasting color.  A dark grey or brown (depending on the furnishings in your house) such as Benjamin Moore’s Willow would be great.  The back splash needs more of a wow factor, I used a simple marble mosaic here.  For the hood fan you could paint it the same color as the island, or replace it with a stainless steel fan.  Lastly, to add some visual texture and added glitz with an interesting light fixture.  This one is from Restoration Hardware.

I would love to hear opinions on this.  Do you have a room that needs some love? Send me your pictures!

Other great design questions:  Choosing a Paint Color, Working around off centered windows or design inspiration,

I love the kitchen cabinets. What color are they painted? Also, is there a fee for your service?

What is a good color to paint my interior doors until I can afford to replaced them with med oak color doors? We are totally redoing our 1960’s home and I love the traditional country style. I am putting all medium oak trim in and repainting some of the rooms as we go along room to room. I have a muted gold color in my kitchen so far. I want to repaint my interiors doors to make the rooms look nicer but have no idea of the color. Help, please?
Livingroom is going to be a tan color, bathroom is another goldish color with burgundy. Bedrooms are burgundy, white and blue.
    Thanks!

What about a creamy white? I find it will brighten up the wall colors, and go with the new changes you make as you go. I really like cloud white and simply white from Benjamin Moore.

Need help with a corner fireplace!,
We just purxhased a new TH and have difficulties deciding how to arrange furniture and where to locate TV. Temporarely place over mantel, but too high and uncomfortable to watch. It is a small area. Would it look too cluter to add a TV stand next to fireplace? Find pictures on flickr.

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
