For every tragic time of disaster, there are always stories of inspiration and hope that follow. When hurricane Katrina hit the United States, we immediately heard stories of heroics. People going above and beyond to help serve hot meals, provide a safe place to sleep, and helping connect families to lost loved ones. As a family member who has had to watch from the outside, wondering how your loved ones are doing, or where they are, this is a service that has come in handy.
I have also had the experience of being on the helping end. When floods ravaged our city last summer, we helped to fill sand bags, remove garbage, bleach every surviving household item, you get the drift. Red cross was there! It really placed perspective on what was important, and what things needed to be protected. For me, it was important documents, a back up storage device of family photos, and other such documents.
