Do you ever get sad when you’re sorting through your baby’s adorable little clothes and realize she’s growing out of them? That happened to me this weekend. I’m kind of a sentimental gal, and having a growing child tends to bring out the hoarder in me…! Anyway, it’s not just that those itty-bitty clothes are so adorable, it’s the memories attached to them: her floral, bright neon dress from when she took her first steps; her purple striped bathing suit from that weekend she made sandcastles with her cousins in Santa Cruz; those pink pajamas she wore to catch that early morning train-ride to the Santa Barbara zoo; and don’t get me started about the black patent-leather Mary-Janes she ran up and down the church halls in! I put them in the “too small” box or the “almost grown out of” drawer in her dresser and I’m just sad!
Then, I came across this cute little tank dress she got as a gift and I was like, “NOOOOOO!” She hadn’t even worn it yet! Even though we live on the California Coast, our weather had gotten a little bit chilly this fall. Thus, that sweet gift had gotten hung up for later. And it’s one of those ridiculously adorable girls party dresses from TwirlyGirl. Have you seen them? They’re basically a little girls DREAM! Bright, twirly, bouncy, stretchy and fabulous. If a little girl designed a dress, it would be a TwirlyGirl party dress! I put it in the “almost grown out of” box, hoping she could at least wear it as a tank-top in the Spring. Then it happened…
I remembered our church schedule had changed for the new year, so we had TONS of time to kill before we had to be there. It turned out to be a gorgeous day, and I was thinking, “there’s no way I’m not staying in this house all day until1:00!” We decided to take a quick little drive to Morro Bay, and I knew exactly what to dress my daughter in! Even though it was basically the size of a tank-top on her and I had to layer it so she wouldn’t get cold, that little girls party dress got to have its’ day in the sun! We ran down the boardwalk, swung on the swings that overlooked the sun-shimmered bay, and taunted the waves to chase us along the shore.
So guess which drawer her little TwirlyGirl dress is going to be in for a little longer? Yep, the “totally fits/ready to make some more memories” drawer!
And since my daughter loves to run and jump and dig around in the sand, I think the TwirlyGirl dresses are perfect; stretchy and twirly- not fussy! It allows her to play while still looking like the little princess that every girl loves to be. I decided to check out their shop and found a bunch of other amazing dresses. And guess who’s turning 2 years old this weekend? I think it’s time for a new party dress!
