The rapidly growing recruitment firm Spencer-Ogden just opened its new office doors in Calgary last week. What makes it stand out to me is not its reputation for success, but rather the exciting and unique environment it provides. Nothing is taken too seriously, the office is designed to energize and motivate.
The plaque says “Her Majesty, The Queen, Rulin”
A Fiat bike rests, ready to ride at the entrance to the work space.
I would want to work here, just to see that beautiful Smeg fridge every day.
If you look at the Spencer-Ogden website, you will see that some design elements are repeated in every office space, such as the astroturf carpet, large work tables, and booth meeting spaces. Each office also has some unique touches adding a nod to the local style, but a bit tongue in cheek.
Calgary’s office has a hockey inspired room used for training purposes. The sign on the door proudly explains, “Not A Bored Room”. Posters found at Chateau Lake Louise were framed and added to the decor, along with sports memorabilia and antiques, found locally at antique stores including Inside Antiques here in Calgary.
Inside the loft feeling space is another cozy meeting room styled like a log cabin. Pictures hung to look like windows, and green gingham fabric made into window drapes add the perfect finishing touches. They better! Bonita Spencer-Percival packed them in her own suitcase from England. I was excited to see that other designers (not just me) are that dedicated to the final vision of the space. Every details matters, and it is executed perfectly. The wood wallpaper and evergreen scent complete the room.
