Rainy Day Activities For kids

As a mom of three very active kids I am constantly on the hunt for screen free ways to keep them entertained when it rains.  My kids have loved the idea of story rocks to paint and make up stories as the pull out the rocks.  Honestly, I could see one kid getting mad and throwing the rock as his brother and then I’d be off to urgent care so I was desperate for a safer alternative.

Window Cling Monsters

Most kids love putting stickers everywhere they can,  so when I saw the Cricut window cling material an ideas was born. Personalized story characters! To start I cut out several basic shapes in a few colors.  Using large remnant pieces they cut out their own random blob shape as a body.  Each kid took turns designing their own monster.   It was fun to see how creative they could get with simple shapes.

Sadly, a rainy day NEVER came so we played our fun games on a sunny day.  In true boy style, once the monsters were made they took off to grab their nerf guns and arrows and the monsters became targets! They loved having something to shoot at, I loved that they shot at something other than me or their brothers.

For added fun, cut out letters make it easy to add speech bubbles to the monsters! This could be as simple or complicated as your child wants! My boys have taken to writing messages with the window cling letters on the bathroom mirrors and random windows.

This project is so easy to make and be customized to any age group.  Window cling is simple to use and the best part is that it cleans up too. Be sure to keep the paper backing to keep your monster shapes from getting damaged in between uses.

Brooke - Brooklyn Berry Designs

Hey, I’m Brooke!

I am a mom to 4 boys in Calgary, Alberta.  I love learning how things are made, singing to the radio loudly, and can’t stop talking. Fueled by diet coke and chaos, I can often be found working on a project.  You can hang out here for craft ideas and tips, games and activities to do with kids, plus FREE svg files and printables.
