Have you heard of microblading? Do you want to know what it is all about from someone who did it knowing nothing at all? Keep reading to hear all about this new beauty trend.
I have really light shades of lashes and eyebrows and have never had a really strict maintenance routine. I would wax them whenever I thought about it. Whenever I had my makeup done they would pencil in my brows darker and add some shape and definition to them. I loved the look the eyebrow pencil gives, but had no idea how to repeat it at home. When a friend of mine took a course on microblading I began to see before and after images on instagram, and started looking at everyone’s brows for a look I could live with every day. I have seen big, luscious brows become a big trend these days, with younger girls going with a very full, thick, and colored in brow. OH I had lots of thoughts on it and loved the idea of microblading being a semi permanent makeup that would remove a step in the daily beauty routine.
I was a model for a student in the course (not my friend that was taking the course, she had too many volunteers) and wanted to share some of the main questions and concerns I had before beginning, and share my experiences here. Because so much of this can very, I would love your comments if you had done microblading yourself!
What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup that places pigment into your skin with a pen type tool with micro blades. The strokes applied to your skin look like very fine lines for a very realistic hair looking line.
Does it hurt?
It depends. A numbing cream is used, but the pain level depends on the person. For myself, I found the first pass to be not painful at all, the second round I could feel it a little more, and the third round to feel a bit stinging (in that I recall being told to relax my eyelid so I must have been cringing a bit). Overall, I would put my pain as a 4 out of 10.
How long does it take?
The appointment time was 2.5 hours. The majority of the time is used to determine the shape of the brows on your face and making sure they are similar on both sides. I was very nervous about the shape, so I appreciated that so much detail went into this part. The actual microblading part was about 30 minutes. There will be two appointments total, the initial application and a touch up 6 weeks later.
How long does microblading last?
Typically they last 1-3 years. This can vary on how well you take care of them (sunscreen, moisturizer, etc) and depending on the touch-up you get done. My brows were very bold and dark on the day of, and faded on day 4 to where I wanted them to look forever. Mine faded very quickly, so I opted for a darker color on my touch up so that it would fade to the color I originally wanted at my first appointment. So, don’t be afraid to go a shade darker than your ideal and don’t panic if they look too bold when you walk out of your appointment.
