I have let you see the bland front door I had at my house. If you want to read the journey of the transformation, see front door before and front door after. It made such a big difference to the feeling of the house right when you enter.
Another door that needs to be updated was the door from our laundry room that opens into the garage. This door barely functioned. For building codes, most garage doors need to be fire rated and automatically close. This door did not automatically close. In fact, if we pushed the door closed, it would bounce right back open. After forcing the door closed and dead bolting it in order to keep it from opening again, there were still cracks in the frame where cold air would creep into our home.
The entire function of this room bothers me (reminder to anyone building a new house: do not put a laundry room in an entry. Ever.) This room is purely functional. Stacking the washer and dryer lets me have a storage closet for the vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies. Hooks and a shelf provide storage for everyone to hang up a coat. There is usually a few pairs of shoes on piled on the floor because Canadians take them off at the door every time. Without being asked. I might have to write a post about that sometime.
Having the cold door makes doing laundry bitterly cold. So any door that functions would be a big improvement over what we had before. The features we were looking at for an exterior door were self-closing and professionally installed.
We decided to order the Belleville panel door from Masonite, which is a classic door style. The material is fiberglass because it is maintenance free and the most durable. The texture is smooth and it will be factory finished in the color Sable (the same color as the front door).
I can’t wait to show you how a door can transform a space. If you are shopping for doors be sure to check out Masonite. They are sold in both Home Depot and Lowes here in Canada, which makes it so convenient!
