Get the perfect first day of school photo with your kids with these free printable first day of school signs!
It’s that time of year! It’s back to school time already and there are so many things to do before the new school year begins! If you have a tradition of taking first day of school pictures you will need the perfect first day of school signs as a photo prop!
Here are my kids on the first day of school last year. Minus the oldest who started an hour later. This was not my most adorable photo, but I love it because they are my kids!
As a mom with a middle school kid, I can confirm that most of this back to school tradition (or anything we do, ever) are really cringy to our kids. I think when they finish high school they appreciate these photos more than the traditional school photos. Because I know they are rolling their eyes at me, I like to make it as simple and easy as possible. One sign. Snap a picture on the way out the door. Done.
Back To School Signs
Want the adorable photo but you are too busy to worry about that? You can now leave the cute signs to the last minute. I got you! I created these banner flags as a fun way to capture the memory of the day that requires zero prep time! Print your cute sign at home, tape it to a wooden dowel, and add some ribbon! Grab the free download at the end of this post.
There are a ton of cute first day of school signs out there, but I wanted something more of my own style. I also know my own limitations with time and figured I would only want to make only ONE adorable sign for all of my kids to hold. So, I opted to not include the current school year in the design. While this works for me, I also designed some options for free printable signs that list the different grades. You can do what works best for you!
Instructions
- Print the pennant flag (get the download at the end of the post). I like to use HP Instant Ink to save money on printing.
- Trim the pennant with a paper slicer
- Tape the pennant around a dowel
- Add ribbon, tulle, yarn, or any other accessories
Notes:
If you don’t have a wooden dowel hanging around the house, there are so many other things you probably have that would work. Bamboo skewers, chop sticks, paper straws, and even pencils would work! It only has to last long enough for a photo, so its a great place to improvise.
