Simplify Your Cleaning – Managing a house hold chore system

1.  Create a cleaning Routine

Actually MAKE a chore system.  Whatever works for you, divide it out per day,  a 5 minute quick pick up per room, etc.  Check out flylady if you want a direction and someone to tell you how to get it done.  The cleaning routine needs to work for you!

2.  Clean the shower and tub when you are in the shower.

Take a sponge and cleaner and rinse off with shower head.  When your toddler is taking a bath, the tub is already clean.  You can use that time to clean the toilet, sink, mirror, etc. When they are finished, the floor is already half wet, mop the floor on your way out!

3.  Finish the task

Before you go to bed each night, make sure the dishes are done and the laundry is put away.  There is nothing worse than waking up to dirty dishes from the night before and the dryer full of dry clean clothes.

4.  throw away, put away, give away

While deep cleaning a room, always have 3 bins (or garbage bags) – throw away, put away, give away.  That way your garbage is all together, your donate items are ready to go, and you only have 1 bin of things to arrange.  A friend of mine has a really pretty basket in her home, and you would never guess its the lost item box in her house.

5.  Combine your cleaning products.

Instead of lugging and storing 10 different cleaners, get one awesome cleaner you can use on most items.  That way you only have a few specialty cleaners (for me this is the glass stove cooktop and window cleaner) to take with you when needed.

Great tips, especially about using just one cleaning product. That’s the way to go, I discovered.

Good tips. I do pretty well at making sure things are put away at the end of each day. It does totally bug me when I get up and things are a mess.

I always clean my shower as I’m in there. I use vinegar as it’s harmless to me and it’s the best time saver ever! Love the rest of your tips too!
