Fall Decor with faux florals

The weather is getting chilly, which always gets me excited to bundle up, bring out the scarfs and jackets to wear and start decorating my home for fall. I am hosting thanksgiving dinner at my home and wanted to make some fun things to change up the table setting.  Canadian thanksgiving is in October, so for any American readers this will just be a head start of ideas for you.

For the 12 months of  DIY challenge our material to use in September is faux florals. Afloral.com was kind enough to provide some product for us to use and I fell in love with the Magnolia leaves. I love the idea of writing names on leafs for place cards, but I wouldn’t dare ruin this stunning garland by writing on the leafs or ripping them off. Instead I chose to use the full garland as a table runner along my dining table.

Come see how I used a pretty leaf garland for my Fall table, plus make sure to head down to the bottom of this post to see what some of my favourite blogging friends made with faux flowers!enjoy-name-setting

Fall Decor Table Setting

Starting with a basic table runner, the magnolia leaf garland is the perfect piece to bring interest to the table. I added some shine by using some hexagone wall hangings and painting them metallic gold. This might not be the most conventional idea, but I like how it raises the plates up and adds some height and visual impact to the table.  I cut out some felt leaves using my Cricut and added a wood plate for a place card.  The kids wanted their names, but in order to keep some for guests in the future and still have enough for each plate I chose to do some wood cards with Thanksgiving words.  Enjoy, Thankful, etc.

To see the full tutorial on how I made the custom place cards, I have a tutorial coming soon on Walnut Hollow (link to come).

Products Used

  • Buffalo check table runner – made by me with fabric from Ikea
  • Magnolia leaf garland from Afloral  – similar
  • Hexagon Wall Shelves (used as plate chargers)
  • Felt Garland – DIY (tutorial coming soon)
  • Wood Burned place cards – DIY (tutorial coming soon)gather-wood-sign

This wood sign was hand drawn and then burned into the wood.  I love the word choice of Gather.  Perfect for joining together for a meal with friends and family.  Embrace the ones you love!

I would never of thought to use a magnolia vine as a table runner…it’s such a lovely and unique touch! And such a great combination with the buffalo plaid, metallic gold, natural wood and earthy greens.

There are so many great ideas here! I particularly love the hexagon wall pieces used as chargers. Your buffalo check runner is lovely too. The faux leaves and the faux felt leaves…I love it all! (And I can make the felt leaves now with my new Cricut – yay!)
