3 Ways To Add Spring To Your Home Decor

I love springtime in that it brings longer days of sunlight. Melting snow and sunshine on my face feels so good and makes me rejoice. This same bright feeling makes its way into my home decor – although in my house right now we are in the final stretch of a mini home renovation. (We ripped out the floors in the basement and reinstalled vinyl plank floors).  Right now we have baseboards and casings in progress and it feels not so springy, but I did manage to do some minor spring decor updates. Whether you have a small home, a busy life, or live amidst home construction there are 3 simple ways to update your spring decor.

A sneak peak at the basement, where all of my free time is spent right now.

Spring Clean

Get rid of the winter blahs by de-cluttering the main spaces in your home. While taking on the entire home may be too overwhelming, it can be easier to tackle small tasks, a few at a time. I often get started after moving furniture around – it begins with bringing out the vacuum which leads to baseboards, and once the steam cleaner is out I head straight to the window tracks.  Deep cleaning a room brings new ideas and excitement for your home.

COLOR

When I think of spring decor, I think bright and pastel colors, and flowers.  Typically throw pillows and printable art are the most affordable and easy ways to bring in some color. There are so many great printables that can be easily printed at home and hung on your walls. A simple way to bring in color is with fabric. I made a simple no-sew fabric banner to add some color to the hallway in my home.  It’s a bit dark, and the pop of color and pattern makes me happy when I walk by. You can catch the full tutorial for a simple fabric banner here.

Here is my fireplace mantle for spring – some greenery and some color!  My son is really big into planets and space right now so we have been collecting all the globes we can find at the thrift stores and some at home decor stores.  This globe was a typical office globe but we painted it (we in this situation being myself and my 5 year old son).  Alberta and Idaho are singled out in yellow because they are our family’s favorite places. Hearts on the cities / towns we call ‘home’.

PLANTS AND FLOWERS

Whether real or fake, flowers, bring in spring decor. My all time favorite are tulips! They are pretty affordable and last forever.  If you don’t have a green thumb, silk plants are the way to go.  They add some color and brighten a space, it just makes me happy!

Great tips for adding a springy feel!! Spring cleaning is so key – all that sunshine certainly does reveal the dust. Right about now I’d like to see a little sunshine; spring on the west coast means a ton of rain!
