3D Snowflake Ornaments

I love to change my Christmas decorations each year, and in order to not spend a ton of money I always make some ornaments at home.  I have a few beautiful glass bulbs that are neutral – silver, gold, grey and then whatever color I am going with that year I will accent with using ribbon and inexpensive pieces.  This year I have a one year old so I wanted to make some ornaments that wouldn’t be breakable or I wouldn’t be devastated if they were dropped.  These 3D snowflake ornaments are the perfect solution.

Make It Now Projects

The design for this snowflake comes straight from Cricut Design Space images – it is a make it now project! These projects are amazing because the hard work is already done for you.  The template is ready for you to cut and assemble. Its as simple as finding a project and hitting the “Make It” button.  If you want to customize your project, like changing the size, you can easily do that by selecting the ‘Customize’ button.  This opens the design and you can unlock and customize from there.

For this project I used white and turquoise cardstock and cut out various sizes using my Cricut Explore Air 2.  I loved the 4″ size the best for ornaments on the tree, but I would love to cut out some more that were huge, like 10 or 12 inches to place on a mantle.  HMMM.  I may have to try that!

After cutting out the snowflake templates you will assemble them by connecting the two cut out notches (you will see what I mean when you cut them out). I used a glue gun to keep the pieces in place, they like to wiggle around and go flat.  Keep the glue hidden by applying it to the back as much as possible.

If you are a regular reader of my blog than you know I love using my Cricut Explore as much as possible.  It just makes projects like these 3D snowflake ornaments so easy to make and look high quality.  To show you how many great projects you can make with the Cricut Explore I joined 12 other Canadian bloggers (most of them I met at Blog Podium in the Cricut class there).  We are each sharing a handmade christmas ornament using our Cricuts and we are giving away a machine for FREE!  Just in time for Christmas!

Now that you’ve seen what the Cricut can do, it’s time to enter to win your own Cricut Explore Air 2!

Beautiful ornament! I had been eyeing these designs, but considered doing them in balsa wood!
