Being a reader and raising your own family of bookworms is an expensive hobby, luckily there are ways to save money on books without limiting the amount of books you read. Not only do you want to own most of the books in your local bookstore, but there are also necessary investments in bookshelves, e-readers, and headlamps.

If you just read that last sentence and laughed, but could relate, welcome to our book lovers club. Where we fall in love with fictional characters and would rather read a good book than be around people.

For those who are looking for ways to save money without having to reduce the number of books you read, here are…

10 Easy Ways To Save Money On Books

First off is the old reliable,

The Library

Your local library is a tried and true resource for a reason. Most will offer to pull the books for you and have them waiting with your name on them. Talk about easy, right?

Libby

Even better then leaving the house to get books, I am in love with the Libby App. Libby allows users to check out digital copies of books right onto their phones or e-readers. With Libby, you can enjoy free ebooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines from your library. All you need is a library card, and this time the books return automatically so no late fees!

Someone Else’s Library

Are you from a small town with not a huge collection of digital books? Check out someone else’s public library. You could join a library in another city, many offer non-resident memberships for a small fee.

My sister in law is a homeschool mom and fellow book lover, and she has a library card from Queens, New York. An out of state library card is $50 per year. This library card gives you access to all of their digital content.

Borrow From Friends

The concept of borrowing books may not be new, but why not host a book swap event. Sharing book recommendations and giving away your own copy would be a fun way to get and give new books.

Share a series. You and a friend can each purchase a series, and swap once you read them!

Little Free Library

The little free library is a take a book, leave a book system that your neighbors setup in their yards. Some look like a tiny house but the design options are endless. My neighborhood has a London phone booth little free library. I have discovered one little library has tons of romance books and fiction, others have great kids books. I separate books to drop off at each location.

Audible

The Audible plus is a membership that offers you access to thousands of audio books and podcasts for only $7.95/month. Audible has exclusive narrators and actors that narrate the books. Membership lets you can also purchase books outright for better deals than the price for a book credit. If you wanted to purchase an audio book, they are able to be used on any device such as a yoto player.

Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited is another amazon product that allows you unlimited reading for a monthly fee. The book selection is limited, there are lots of romances and self-published authors. Flat fee per month.

Everand

Everand is like Netflix for Ebooks and audio books. You can search the app and you can save books to listen to whenever you want. There are no due dates but when the membership expires you won’t have access to the books anymore.

Happy Reading!
